I saw the houses muzzled and the silence squatting in sticky blood in the streets / The windows are blinded by bricks, their shrouds are weaved by a spider / … / My shadow flees away rattling in the rifts of the houses / … / And the memory of grass quails from under the armpits of the stones / And from the trunks of trees / A daffodil’s seed closes the palm of its hand firmly in the earth / On the passions of seasons / A vine, whose throne was ruined, hides suns and laments of a dove / My steps kiss the cheeks of the soil / I call / but the echo staggers back to me / I perforate the beads of tears to make a necklace / And a rosary / For my prayers.” (Hanna Abu Hanna)

“لقيتك تستنبتين الدّموع بوادي الصّليب. رأيتُ البيوت تُكمّ، ويقعي السّكون دمًا لزجًا في الدروب / تُعَمَّى النّوافذ بالطّوب ينسج أكفانها عنكبوت / … / ويهرب ظلّي منّي يحشرج بين سلوع البيوت / … / وتنفر ذاكرة العشب من تحت إبط الحجر / وساق الشّجر / وتغلق بذرة نرجسةٍ كفّها في التّراب / على خَلَجات المواسم / ودالية قوّضوا عرشها / تخبي الشّموس وبوحَ الحمائم / يقبِّلُ خطوي خدّ الأديم / وشوق الدّيار احتراق دمٍ وعتاب نبيّ / أنادي / ولكن صداي يعود إليّ / وأثقب من خرزات الدّموع قلادة / ومسبحةً للعبادة.” (حنا أبو حنا)
